Chinese Rhubarb (Rheum Palmatum)
Slow growing and requiring space, the Rheum Palmatum is a good alternative to Gunnera Manicata if you have a smaller garden.  Its gigantic leaves are a deep mahogany colour when new and it produces a tall flower spike during June and July.
