How to Grow
  • Growing Instructions: Plant in well-drained, free-draining soil in full sun. These plants are ideal for rockeries, gravel gardens, raised beds or cascading naturally across stone and waterfall edges. Avoid heavy, waterlogged ground, particularly in winter.

Position in a sunny, open site for best flowering and compact growth. Water regularly during dry spells in the first growing season to help roots establish, but once settled these plants are drought tolerant and low maintenance.

Space approximately 3–5 plants per square metre for 2ltr/3 litre pots, allowing room for natural spread and good air circulation.
  • Growing Tips: Improve drainage before planting by incorporating grit or sharp sand into heavier soils. These plants prefer lean, well-drained conditions rather than rich, moisture-retentive ground. Avoid adding excessive compost, as overly fertile soil can lead to soft, leggy growth.

A light gravel mulch applied after planting helps suppress weeds, retain warmth around the roots and keep foliage dry at the base. Plant so the crown sits at soil level, never buried, as good air circulation around the base prevents winter rot.

Remove spent flowers where practical to encourage further blooming, and trim back lightly after flowering to maintain a neat, compact shape.
Care & Maintenance
  • Pruning: Rockery plants require very little routine pruning. Remove spent flowers after blooming to encourage repeat flowering and maintain a tidy, compact shape. Trim back any tired or damaged growth in early spring as new shoots begin to appear. Many varieties benefit from a light post-flowering tidy to keep cushions dense and neat, helping plants stay healthy and floriferous throughout the season.
  • Pests/Diseases: Rockery plants are resilient but may occasionally attract pests such as slugs, snails and aphids. Planting in free-draining soil and full sun helps reduce excess moisture that can encourage damage. Check new growth regularly and encourage beneficial insects such as ladybirds and hoverflies for natural control. Good spacing and airflow between plants will keep foliage healthy and minimise the risk of fungal problems.

Are plants dispatched the same day as ordering?

No. Live plants require draining and careful preparation.  The nurseries dispatch in scheduled batches rather than on-demand. This means same-day dispatch isn’t possible, but we always aim to send your order as promptly as we can within our dispatch schedule.

If you’d like to check when your order is likely to arrive, just email us and we’ll be happy to advise.
