With their large, upright flowers in shades of white, pink, red and creamy yellow, these hellebores look stunning tucked into shady borders, gravel paths, or containers near your pond. They’re low-maintenance, UK hardy and offer reliable winter-long interest, ideal for lifting dull corners or pairing with grasses and evergreens.

How to Grow

Growing Instructions: Plant in moist, well-drained soil in partial to full shade, ideal for borders or containers positioned near the pond. Space plants approximately 3–5 per square metre for 2ltr pots to allow good airflow and healthy growth. These hellebores are long-lived and will settle in best when planted where they can spread slowly over time.

Growing Tips: Mix in organic matter or leaf mould when planting to enrich the soil. Apply a mulch of compost or bark in autumn or early spring to retain moisture and keep weeds down. Avoid burying the crown, keep it just above soil level to reduce the risk of rot. These are low-maintenance plants but benefit from a tidy-up after flowering.

Care & Maintenance

Pruning: Remove faded flowers and old leaves in late winter or early spring to tidy the plant and reduce the risk of disease. This also encourages new foliage and flower growth the following season.

Pests/Diseases: Generally trouble-free. Watch for aphids, vine weevils, and black spot on older leaves. Frogs and toads often found near ponds help manage pests like slugs naturally. Keeping the area clean and spacing plants well will help reduce fungal problems.

Ordering, Shipping & Returns

What is a Pre-Order?

Pre-ordering reserves a plant that is still growing and not yet ready to ship. Payment is taken at checkout to secure your plant, and shipping happens once the plant is well-rooted and ready.

Ordering Tip!

Many customers prefer to place two separate orders when ordering early in the season.

  1. One for plants available now.
  2. One for pre-order plants.

This ensures there are no delays, and you can enjoy your ready now plants sooner.
